She's Here!

March 17, 2010 ~ 10:40pm ~ 8lb 3oz ~ 20 inches long

We had a St Patrick's Day baby! She's adorable with a head full of black shaggy hair...which we still don't understand given that Amaryllis' tow-head mullet still isn't this thick!

Super easy birth. We went to 5 Guys for a burger, then I had a few painful contractions. We left our house at 7:40pm for the hospital and she was born 3 hrs later!

She came sooo quick. My contractions were only ever 9 min apart (they say to stay at home until they are 4 min apart, in which case we would've had a home birth if we had followed that advice. Not for me!) so that was kind of nice that I didn't have them as often. Boy howdy, I'd forgotten that feeling.

We spent most of the time in triage getting checked in and waiting on blood results so I could get an epidural. After waiting for that to take effect, the doc broke my water and said let's push (I was looking at him confused b/c I got to take a 3 hr nap at that point with Amaryllis). Apparently I was already dilated at a 10.

Allow me to take a moment and thank the brilliant scientists that invented the epidural.

Anyways, I pushed 3 times and she slid out and shocked us all with her black hair and the fact that she was not nearly as fat as we expected (keep in mind AV was 9lb 9oz, and a growth scan 2 wks ago predicted this baby would be large too). I am still amazed at how easy it was--even easier than Amaryllis and everything happened so fast.

We just can't get over her hair. Never in a million years would I have thought Jake and I could produce a child with such black full locks. She can already wear bows and clips that Amaryllis can't.

PS: So the name clues were 1) From my favorite something, 2) Starts with a K, 3) Middle name is a family name. My sister had the best/funniest guess. She guessed "Kannapolis" which is the train depot we ride into by my parents house.

It is from one of my favorite classics, Peter Pan. He grew up with the fairies in Kensington Gardens (sort of a prequel to the original story) before he went to Neverland. And my dad's name is Dale but we picked the feminine spelling version.

Of course, it also shows that Peter is ever so old, but he is really always the same age, so that does not matter in the least. His age is one week, and though he was born so long ago he has never had a birthday, nor is there the slightest chance of his ever having one. The reason is that he escaped from being a human when he was seven days' old; he escaped by the window and flew back to Kensington Gardens...

...Well, Peter Pan got out by the window, which had no bars. Standing on the ledge he could see trees far away, which were doubtless the Kensington Gardens, and the moment he saw them he entirely forgot that he was now a little boy in a nightgown, and away he flew, right over the houses to the Gardens. It is wonderful that he could fly without wings, and, perhaps we could all fly if we were as dead-confident-sure of our capacity to do it as was bold Peter Pan that evening

I am SO glad you had a nice labor and I hope your luck keeps up when you take Kensington home!

But, I'm a little disappointed you didn't document the fact that I guessed the correct day and name. Perhaps you were saving that for a post of it's own though. ;)

I can't wait to see more pics!

WOOHOO!! Congratulations!
I love your announcements... too cute. Also, I'm a little jealous of all that hair she has. Gwen is getting balder!
My second labor was way different from the first too. Faster, easier, contracting less often, really a piece of cake in comparison. Of course, I love those epidural scientists too.
Kensington is a sweet name.

Yipee! I should have known you would pick something from Peter Pan. I hope her hair doesn't fall out like Brianna's. She had lots of thick black hair and it fell out and came in blonde. The new little one is BEAUTIFUL!
