iPhone Archives

Well I have lots of super random pictures from my phone, mostly from text chains.  I guess the youngins use "SnapChat" these days, for these kinds of photos.  But I'm old school.

So.  Up first.  Here we have great grandma's little kitchenette, the one I re-furnished oh so many years ago and I still think it's the cutest thing ever.  We brought it downstairs because Maybelle is really into baby dolls right now, and I always try to rotate the downstairs toys.

(Remember, back before you had kids, and you would say dumb things like...
"when I have kids, I'm not going to have any toys in my downstairs, I don't want it looking like a playroom.")

Right.

Now I think it's cute and I love seeing their little play things around the house.  I attended a conference once, and the keynote speaker said something I've never forgotten.  In regards to motherhood, she said to enjoy the "signs of life"....the backpack on the floor, the barbie stuffed in between your couch cushions, the pacifiers in the bottom of your purse.
For some reason, that has stuck with me these past few years, and it helps me to love this stage of life and helps calm the obsessive compulsive side of me :)

Next in the random iPhone images...usually our cute library only has the big Duplo legos out.  Apparently 1 day a month they get out THOUSANDS of TEENY TINY legos and they are everywhere.  The kids were just walking all over them, shuffling through them, making snow angels in the pile.

Remember how I just talked about the obsessive compulsive neat freak side of me?

*I was hyperventilating*
Legos everhwhere. Just a big pile. Not like the kids could even really play, there were so many it was just a sea of legos and some were literally the size of my fingernail.

*Then I was breathing sighs of relief*.
Sighs of relief that I will NEVER have to deal with the lego lifestyle.  I have all girls. I will never have to deal with that. Hallelujah.
I couldn't help it, I also may or may not have started cleaning it up and trying to organize the bins by color and size of lego.
You moms of boys are probably chuckling and rolling your eyes at me right about now.
But the struggle is real, people!

(I feel like I should put in a disclaimer that I love the concept of legos and all that it teaches.  We have 2 big buckets of the duplo building ones, and a growing collection of Magformers, and I'm convinced Kensington will be our little engineer some day.  But quantities like that, dumped like that, accckkk!)

Moving on.

For Jake's birthday, our little creative Amaryllis hid all his presents and made a cute scavenger hunt:

Inspiration:

I've been stuck for a year on what to do with my bedroom.  Mostly with what to hang on the walls.  I want it to speak to me.  Then I stumbled on this wall treatment.
It spoke to me.
So I'm having fun, getting creative and taking funky pictures, weird crops, different angles, and trying to look at things in our life in a "black and white" lens.  I'm going to do tons of black and white prints, of things that mean something to us, but in an artsy style.  It def won't be as girly as these pictures.  But you get the general idea.
So stay tuned.

Thoughts on childhood innocence:
Amaryllis and Brooklyn made this Martin Luther King book during their play time at the gym.  It kinda threw me off guard (usually she colors things about ponies or mermaids or princesses).

It actually kinda made me sad, because up until she learned about MLK in her class, she was a completely color blind little girl.  Like really, she did not see the color of people's skin. At all.  It made no difference to her.  She didn't even know it was a "thing" or a way of seeing someone, describing someone, etc.  And I loved that innocence about her.  And I always tried to never ask her directly about her friend's ethnicity (her school is VERY diverse, with all kinds of nationalities, she is probably 1 of 6 white kids in her class) because I wanted to keep the colorblindness intact and see when/if it emerged.  And now it has due to a first grade history lesson.  Which is neither good or bad, just...I don't even know what I'm trying to say....  So.  Yeah.

Food.
Two of my lovely readers (my only readers probably ha!) asked how we go to the park (see previous post) every afternoon, and still do homework, quiet time, and dinner.  Amaryllis gets home at 2:15, does her homework, then it's quiet time while hopefully Maybelle naps.  Then around 4pm we head to the park, sometimes with a very hefty snack. So that's that.

It's no secret I don't really cook.  Which usually means the girls eat a quick meal around 6ish (or I bring it to the park) and Jake and I eat after they go to bed around 7:30.  We do homework right after Amaryllis gets home from school at 2:15.

The past few months, off and on, I've been an allstar and eating healthy.  It takes waaaaay more time to meal prep, and more time grocery shopping (both which I hate) but I dunno, I like the way I feel about myself when I make healthy choices, as opposed to feeling crappy and being at war with myself when I over indulge.  If I can take 1 afternoon and cook and load up my fridge with easy healthy food, then it's what I reach for.  I've been liking it.  Loving it actually.  Boring? Yes.  Convenient? YES.  Otherwise I reach for the nearest bag of kids crackers or buy crap food, and then I'd weigh 500lbs and maybe it makes me vain admitting this, but I don't like to worry about how I look so if I know I'm fit and being healthy, then that's one less thing to think about.

We probably average 1-2 sit down family dinners per week.  Then definitely on Sundays.  The rest of the week, it's a simple menu for the kids.  Like eggs (I can make eggs all different ways!), pancakes, noodles, hot dogs, meatballs, etc as the main course.  Then they have a fruit and a veggie and some cottage cheese.  Voila.  Dinner made in 5 minutes or less.

Some day in the future I'll have the time and energy to cook lavish meals every night without "helpers" or as of lately, a baby literally hanging on my legs or digging through the tupperware cupboard at my feet.

Oh, and for when you want some chocolate...I'm actually loving these protein balls as a substitute.  I keep them in the fridge ready to go.

Fail to plan.
Plan to fail.
Right?

Also I'm the first to admit I love to make fun of people who try to make "healthy" junk food.

Amaryllis, and her awesome baby naming abilities:

The picture in the right hand corner is "Ida" and it's from a game that Jake has been playing with the girls.

It was voted #1 in the App store for 2014. They LOVE playing it with him.
They get to play 1 level before bed (takes about 2 minutes since they have it memorized).  And even though they've beat the game a few times, they still want to play it every night.

They LOVE playing it with him.
It's sort of a brain teaser, spatially challenging kind of game.

So get it from the app store, if you need something new on a plane ride or to break up your bedtime routine.  It is a real good bribe, never seen them get ready for bed and clean up so quick!

Speaking of Amaryllis.  I saw this picture and thought, huh...that likes like teenager Amaryllis (with long hair, ha!).  I dunno, something about the expression and the face, made me slightly scared for the future too.

Blackmail Archives.

You guys been waiting for the good pictures, huh! I know you are!

Well TOO BAD.  I'm gonna be nice this time.  And dang, I have some good ones.  You know who you are. And you'll probably never make the mistake of sending me a selfie again, mwahhaha.

Also.  My spelling has gotten embarrassingly atrocious.  Autospell, you have undone my 16 yrs of education!  You should see all the little squiggly red lines on this post.  Also I misused "through" and "threw" as well as "vein" and "vain" but luckily I caught it so yall won't think I'm too big of a retard.
