We met up with Angie, one of my Freshman roommates, halfway between our houses in central California at a cute little tourist spot called Morro Bay. The drive along the coast was beautiful.

Whenever I hangout with any of my college roommates, I catch myself in a moment of disbelief. Has it really been 10 yrs? Do we really have kids? Did we ever think we'd be hanging out in our 30s?
Who would've thought that Angie and Emily (who didn't really start off on that great of a note back in Heritage Halls, mind you!) would be meeting up for a beach weekend in California with their kids.

But it was a really fun weekend. They are great people to travel with--they did all the planning and had all the bright ideas. The house we rented was sweet. The location even sweeter. I probably would have never ever taken my toddlers on a canoe out to see a congregation of sea lions but I'm glad they made us do it.

The sea lions were pretty cool, I gotta admit. I'm not sure why it's so fascinating to watch such big beasts barking/croaking, but canoeing past them and having a little sail boat almost ram into them was pretty exciting.

Our first family photo of 2012, and my goal was to have more this year. Gotta get to work!

We picked a great weekend, a Kite Festival was in full swing so we could see the kites on our little canoe trip out to Morro Rock.

The Kite Festival was kicked off with an awesome parade that showcased the town's promising future stars:

At least the kids thought it was cool. Maybe.

Angie's cute kids, Hazel and Jack:

A mini-hike up some big rocks:
I decided I need to be more adventurous. The entire time we were climbing the rocks all I could think was Amaryllis cracking her head open or Kensington falling to her death (and it was a real wussy climb). Same with canoeing--at one point Kensington shimmied her way up between my legs on the canoe and was at the very front, and I was clutching her in between my legs like a crazy woman until she said "ow ow ow". Haha. Anyways, I really need to chill out with the worry wart mother hen syndrome.
Out of all these pictures and cute kids, this iPhone snapshot of a little mailbox in a patch of purple flowers ends up being my favorite and is now my iPhone screen wallpaper. This is for you Angie:
The view from our house, perfect end to our days:

Fun trip! But I have to correct you, that is your 2nd family picture of 2012. Remember the beach trike picture? Come on, it's like you already forgot we came out to see you.
No fair, you always get to do all of the cool/fun stuff. Miss you sista!
Nice post. I'd better get on it and write my own. Maybe tonight...
So funny what you said about mother henning. Todd said when he and Jake took Hazel up to the top of that big rock, Hazel was sitting way on the edge and even got splashed by some waves (Todd has waaaay looser boundaries than I do) and he said Jake told him, "I would never let my little girl do that." Maybe we need to be a little more safety-conscious?
It was a great weekend! I'm glad we did it. Thank goodness we figured out how to be friends.
awww....so fun!
haha i laughed so hard about the worry wart part. awesome!
