Let Down Your Long Hair

We had a magical moment in the Disney store the other week.  I hardly ever go in that store for obvious reasons, they really know how to suck money right out of your pocket.

First thing Amaryllis sees is a long Rapunzel wig braid.  She gasped, dramatically clutched her heart, and walked slowly to it whispering something like "This. Is. Rapunzel's. Hair."

Well of course we have to get it after seeing that dramatic reaction!

The back story, many of you know:  She is oft found pretending to have Rapunzel hair (blankets, jump ropes, a huge pink swatch of fabric from Schramma's dressup box from when I was young).

Babysitters are cornered for a tormenting evening of getting their hair brushed by her.  Kensington is forever tortured when Amaryllis pins her down and brushes her hair with a teeny painful looking barbie brush.

It really is humor on God's part that a small girl with such a hair fascination should have, well, so little of it.

(But at least He gave me Kensington's luscious silky thick locks right?)

Anyways, the Rapunzel wig was a hit to say the least.  Except, as is another obvious reason NOT to shop at the Disney store, my house was covered in glitter within an hour of bringing that thing home. I refuse to buy a princess dress from that store for that very reason.  Glitter. Everywhere.

In other news, her preschool teachers sent home an "evaluation" where they rate all these skills and just write a little about each major category (social, gross motor, fine motor, etc).  Don't you find it fascinating when other people evaluate your kids (be it professionals or obnoxious moms)?  I don't know why, but I find child development theory quite intriguing.

Her teachers said she especially loves arts and crafts, and puzzles/manipulation activities.  She is sweet and quiet (huh???) and likes to observe rather than join in during music or fingerplay.  She loves story time and to participate in group discussions.  She likes independent play but can also play with friends in small groups.

Apparently, all the boys in her class talk about "Amawillis's pwetty dwesses" and tell their moms all about her princess twirls.  She has worn pants to school ONE time and that was a huge battle that honestly I'm not willing to fight every morning.

Pretty sweet giraffe painting. Gotta love preschool projects.

Hazel freaks out about wearing pants, too. She's worn a dress every. single. day since Easter. It's starting to get cold now, and it's a battle, I tell ya. Mostly we've compromised with leggings under her dresses, but it's gotta end sometime, as most of her dresses are sleeveless. I thought I found a great solution - Target was selling Jeggings in her size! At least she'll LOOK like she's wearing real pants. She hates 'em, though. Grr.

Amaryllis is such a special sweetheart! She really is the essence of a magical childhood. I love her new locks, and I love her painting, it really is incredible for her to have done such a good job.
