A Pretty 5 Yr Old

Here is my 5 yr old, showing off her birthday dress (she picked it out from the big girl section because the green skirt could also double as her mermaid fin) and her "mom shoes" (because up until this point, her shoes have always had velcro straps, so these are especially cool because they are strapless AND they click when she walks).

Let's see, what can I document about this little 5 yr old.  Here are a few things

*Princess are awesome and rule her little world.  But so does being tied up, gagged, hurt, or anything else that involves rescuing.

*She usually is humming a soundtrack while she is playing.  We call it the soundtrack of her life, and it isn't much to listen to, but you can tell by her intense face she can hear it in her head.

*She likes when Jake pretends to carry her out the door to work and she says "Dad! I don't go to work you forgot!"

*I love that she adds wings, a crown, and rainbowfication to all her drawings, other people's drawings, and any kind of coloring paper her teacher gives her.

*I'm excited to see her artistic abilities and if she continues with the paper passion.

*She can read her BOB books (as of last week) and we were in s-h-o-c-k when she picked them up and started reading them. Just out of no where, started reading.

*The boys love her.  She doesn't pay them any attention.

*She's shy only if she wants to be, and if it gets her farther.  Otherwise she seems so strong and grounded, and could care less what other people think or do.  I know the day will come but as of now, I don't think she's ever had her feelings hurt by someone.

*She can play with anything. Anything!

*I love when she talks to me, in a very low and serious voice, and says things like:
"My heart tells me ______.  I must. Ok, Mother?"

*I love when she comes to wake me up promptly at 7am every morning.  She always has something cute on, or some sort of hat, wand, crown, stuffed animal entourage.

*There always seems to be a little sound that follows her around--clickity clackity of plastic princess shoes, the dragging of her rapunzel braid, the clinking of a basket full of treasurers.

*She loves her little sister.  I'm so grateful for that.  She is patient with her, helps her, mothers her yet treats her like an equal, and one of my favorite things to do is just watch them together.

So yes, we are glad that we decided to keep her those long 5 years ago.

Remember when her and kd didn't get along and you were worried they never would. :)

I'm already excited to see her cute face in July.
