Since it was 1 year ago today that I was fatso-ly pregnant and went into labor, I've been thinking a lot about my role as a mother. More specifically, what I have given up to be a mother & selfish thoughts like "what about ME? when is it MY turn, when can I do this and that, I need more time for ME to do MY things" and bla bla bla.
This gem was just what I needed:
"What can . . . young mother[s] [do] . . . to reduce the pressure [of raising young children] and enjoy [their families] more? . . . "Recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction.
Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments. She said: 'The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough.'
This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less."

So, I thought I'd share this pick-me-up with all of you.
Now, excuse me while I get off the computer and go enjoy my little one! Time to sneak into her bedroom so I can soak up the MOMENT and watch her peacefully snooze...

I love that! I always have to remind myself when I'm bored with nothing exciting to do, to just enjoy the time I have with my kids and have FUN playing with them now.
I have heard this quote before, but the whole idea that the joys of motherhood come in moments really hit home. The good thing about days that aren't so great is that you enjoy the days that are. Thanks for posting this! :-)
p.s. Happy Birthday to that adorable little girl of yours!
Nice one, so when are we going to get Pedis?
