From Firetrucks to High Heels

We survived our first California fire.  It was crazy, I've never seen the sky the way it was those few days.  Our neighborhood was used as a cut-through for the fire trucks and the girls loved that.

We been doing some exploring too of course. Beaches and hikes and whatnot.

Amaryllis names the days of the week and when she gets to Saturday she adds, "that's when we go on adventures with daddy".

I always had to do chores on Saturday growing up.  I think I've been in rebellion ever since.

Kensington has been my little buddy while big sis is at preschool the past few months.  She's so fun, and so different and I don't know why, but it just throws me for a loop still when I learn how different she is from Amaryllis and how to adjust my parenting style.  But aint she cute helping me make popcorn here?!

This was her first real drawing that she brought me.  It's Minnie Mouse complete with ears, a tail, and some eye lashes.  She kept asking me to draw Minnie a bow. :)

 We finally have a closing date on our house, yay!  So I've been perusing paint and carpet samples.  It's fun to pick it all out but wow, once you get to seeing all the colors it makes you so indecisive and second guessing.  Which is your fav front door?  It's a toss up between mint and blue.  I think we'll go blue on the exterior and mint on the interior, can't have the HOA on our back.  Fun times, I hope it all comes together and moving doesn't break preggy's back.

It's been fun seeing more of my brother and his cute family.  I'm happy that the girls have close cousins and that they love them.  They are so cute together.

 Amaryllis has been loving ballet, a stark contrast from her ballet experience a year ago.

 And she's been loving swim lessons too, another stark contrast to her first water episode.

 And yes, we must document her first shoe-love moment where she picked out her own heels.

Kensington discovered the camera on the iPad and all she wants to do is take pictures.  Whenever I try to download something on the iPad and it gives me an error saying my memory is full, I go to the Camera Roll and there are HUNDREDS of blurry photos from quiet time and play time of her face, her legs, her piggy, her room.  It's cute.

 They've tried having 2 sleepovers, which haven't worked out great.  Kensington rolls around and can't get comfortable (she still prefers a crib) and Amaryllis gets annoyed that Kensington won't just lay there and sleep.  Ah well.

Gender of baby #3...to be opened next week at fam reunion.  Surprisingly I haven't really cared and the suspense did not torture me.  Not sure why, it's not my personality to wait and drag things out, but I guess I just had it in my head that I wouldn't know until June so it's been no biggie.  My friends on the other hand...I've had to slap a few hands away from the envelope :)

 

Speaking of friends.  Isn't friendship amazing?  I've been thinking a lot about it.  

From all my childhood friends, to HS, college roommates, married newlywed friends, to mommy friends.  I've always been surrounded by fabulous friends.  From great acquaintances to dear friends to bosom buddies.  

I distinctly remember thinking I was "done" making besties after college and I was content with just having plain friends.  I still find it such a kick-in-the-pants of how ignorant I was about the different levels of relationships you have as you grow up.   When I meet cool people that I know I'll have lifelong friendships with, I just roll my eyes at my immature young self for ever thinking I had enough friends and that I couldn't possibly fit anymore into my life.

I don't think we're ever done making bffs.  And I've come to learn there's lots of room in your heart for plenty of people, and there are lots of phases of life where you need different types of people.

Now I know.
